The Viking Ship Museum
Experience five original viking ships and much more.
Vikings and waves
With the sound of the waves and the smell of wet wood, the Viking Ship Museum is located right by Roskilde Fjord and it is a great visit for anyone with Viking blood in their veins.
Experience genuine Viking ships
At the impressive Viking Ship harbor, you find five original Viking ships from the 1000s, excavated 20 km north of Roskilde. They all stem from a defense against enemy naval attacks against Roskilde, which back then was the nation’s capital. In the sailing season from 1 May to 30 September you can go onboard and experience how it is to sail, as it was 1000 years ago.
The Sea Stallion’s voyage
Outside the Viking Ship Hall you find the Sea Stallion from Glendalough -the world’s largest reconstructed Viking ship, which has been on a real expedition: In 2007, the Sea Stallion sailed from Roskilde Fjord, bound for Dublin and returned home a year later after a successful process. At the Viking Ship Museum you can see a film about the dramatic journey, follow all the preparations and read about life on board and see the results.
