The Copenhagen Museum

The new Copenhagen Museum is a must see for anyone interested in Copenhagen.

The new Copenhagen Museum is a must see for anyone interested in Copenhagen. Discover the city’s history through 14,000 years from the reindeer antlers that the ice-hunters have cut into, over the Viking Age’s finely decorated sword handles to short films which today’s Copenhageners.

The exhibition is a walk through time with a focus on important places in history from the Castle Island to the City Hall Square. Along the way you will experience the 18th century forms of greeting, hear the story of the escape king Morten Frederiksen and see the burning Nikolaj Church. Don’t miss the great interactive city model that showcases the capital’s rhythm and very special skyline.

The first special exhibition will be an art exhibition about Copenhagen painter # 1, Paul Fischer. From about 1900, he became known for his paintings of elegant women, proud fishermen’s wives, slender guards and others who roamed the city’s streets.

The archaeological workshop is a few meters further down Stormgade. Here, from February on weekends and holidays, you can learn more about some of the archaeological finds found in Copenhagen, which in recent years has been Europe’s largest urban excavation.

The Copenhagen Museum is located right next to the town hall in a historic building from 1894. The richly decorated halls and rooms are worth a visit in themselves. Buy a piece of Copenhagen home from the store and relax in the café or historic courtyard.
