Heerup Museum

The Heerup Museum offers a unique experience of being able to observe and enjoy the work and thoughts of visual artist Henry Heerup.

Henry Heerup – a Danish artist in a class of his own!
Henry Heerup (1907-1993) is a true master in Danish art history. By virtue of his own idiom, his artistic qualities, his narrative joy and creation, Heerup was a fast part of the Danish art scene, known and loved by a wide section of the Danish population. Heerup Museum presents the artist’s paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints from a period of more than 70 productive years. Heerup distinguished himself by virtue of his special ability to master many forms of expression, and is particularly known for his ability to handle life’s great existential themes in a simple and attentive way.

The artist’s life and work
Heerup Museum houses a unique collection of Heerup’s paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures. Some personal effects from Heerups’s study also belong to the collection, and personal items such as pictures, letters and tape recordings are included in the museum’s story about the artist’s life and work. Through exhibitions and changing suspensions of the museum’s own collection displayed many different facets of Heerup’s art – and his life as an artist. Love, family and his garden in Vanløse were major sources of inspiration for Henry Heerup.

Heerup, the art academy and CoBrA
